Open Studio
The Ant Project invites you to Yanira López's Open Studio.
Yanira Lopez (YaLo) is a Cuban multidisciplinary artist. Her upbringing in the Caribbean combined with her personal experiences as a political refugee influenced her interest in exploring themes of identity, sense of place and self renewal. Yanira currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. This is the info about the work I’m presenting:
Her series Las paredes que abrazo, los pisos que piso is inspired by floor and wall tiles as an architectural element in buildings from Havana, Miami and Mexico City. This series acts as a personal archive aiming to preserve both, the individual and collective memories of places that may no longer exist, bringing a closer look to the effect systems of power and gentrification have in the cities we inhabit.
