Tercerunquinto

From Our Own Height

Proyectos Monclova present From Our Own Height by the collective Terecerunquinto.

This exhibition brings together a series of works created using materials salvaged from buildings that have collapsed due to various events such as earthquakes, demolitions, and other circumstances. Through these works, From Our Own Heightexamines the historical, social, and natural events that have tested the resilience of these architectures. Tercerunquinto explores the fragments of Mexico City to construct new spatial constellations, reinterpreting fallen materials and ruins to highlight the city’s perpetual cycle of destruction and reconstruction. The exhibition features a mural titled Efeméride, composed of salvaged materials and arranged as a celestial map marking the earthquakes of 1985, 2017, and 2021—key moments etched in the collective memory of the city’s inhabitants. The exhibition also includes sculptures from the Terrazos series, which depict, in blueprint-like form, the locations of now-disappeared buildings. Through textual interventions and astronomical references to the passage of time, the exhibition pays tribute to a cultural territory that is simultaneously ancient, modern, and celebrated. Incorporating elements of chance and coincidence, Tercerunquinto transcends both scientific and mystical interpretations, situating the viewer in a contemporary context. This space, pieced together from fragments, serves as an archaeological record of our existence, inviting reflection on the interconnectedness of memory, identity, and territory.
