TELLING OURSELVES THROUGH PAPER: FANZINE AND INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING WITH MI VALEDOR

Narrarse desde el papel: fanzine y publicación independiente con Mi Valedor: As part of the exhibition The Tiger’s Coat, this fanzine-making workshop, led by Mi Valedor, invites young people to explore self-publishing as a medium of expression and everyday resistance. Participants will develop their own editorial line through writing, illustration, collage, and self-publishing techniques.

For young people ages 16 to 25 interested in self-publishing. Limited capacity.

Arturo Soto Flores: Graphic designer graduated from EDINBA and documentary photographer. He coordinates collaborative editorial projects at Mi Valedor, where he promotes art as a tool for community engagement. He has directed colloquiums and exhibitions with vulnerable populations.

Yonebay García Flores: Holds a degree in English Language and Literature from UNAM. She teaches reading and writing at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, where she also leads didactics seminars. She coordinates activities and workshops at Mi Valedor, supporting processes of writing and independent publishing.

Francisco Ismael González Domínguez: Photographer from the State of Mexico. He contributes texts and images to La esquina de Mi Valedor magazine. In 2024 he published the fanzine Uno no es lo que quiere, sino lo que puede ser. He has participated in group exhibitions exploring everyday life and urban memory.

Guillermo Vargas Hernández: Photographer, writer, and illustrator from Chimalhuacán. A Mi Valedor participant since 2021, he has contributed to community radio projects and exhibited in venues such as Laguna and the Centro Cultural del México Contemporáneo. His work addresses social issues with a critical and creative perspective.

Emigdia Hernández Rodríguez: Member of Mi Valedor since 2023. Her artistic practice combines writing, collage, and weaving. She is the author of the fanzine Pedacitos de sabor: un recetario de rancho (2024). Her recent work explores urban mobility through the lens of living with a physical disability.
