Lateral invites you to the conversation around Las Derrotas by Sumie Garcia, with curator Helena Lugo.

On the occasion of the exhibition Las Derrotas, Lateral invites you to a conversation with the artist Sumie Garcia and the curator of the exhibition Helena Lugo. Presenting a publication created especially for the exhibition, with a complete curatorial text by Helena Lugo and a short story by writer Amaury Colmenares. A dialogue to investigate the meaning of defeat, to talk about the ghostly and how we experience the territory through the body. Open to the public, without prior registration.

Sumie García (1986, Mexico City) is a visual artist and filmmaker who specializes in photography intervened with metallic threads, folds and materials such as brass and stone. Her pieces and work have been exhibited in the Fundación I.C.A. Collection; participating in the retrospective exhibition of the collection at Museo Dolores Olmedo; Museo Franz Mayer (Mexico), Acacia Gallery (Havana), Spazio Ridotto (Venice), Salón ACME (CDMX) and a solo exhibition at Cromwell Place (London) with ammann/gallery.

Helena Lugo is an art historian, researcher, writer and curator. She is currently the Director of Terremoto. She received her MFA in contemporary art curatorship from Goldsmiths College. She has worked on projects such as Salon ACME, MMAC Juan Soriano and Chalton Gallery and has written multiple articles for art magazines, essays in books and texts for the gallery. She is editor of the publication "A Return to the Island" and founder of Palmera Ardiendo. She has exhibited in Mexico, China, United Kingdom, Spain and Italy. She participated in the second edition of the Shanghai Curators Lab and in the Curatorial Program for Research: Back to the North. She has received support from The Andy Warhol Foundations for the Visual Arts, Fundación SURA, Fundación Ama Amoedo, PAC, FONCA, Fundación Jumex, Alice Stone Ilchman Scholarship Fund, Goldsmiths International Scholarship and Goldsmiths Annual Fund.
