Fundación Maceta presents the inaugural exhibition Suite Nº1 which brings together artworks by 26 artists working in media ranging from painting, design, sculpture and photography.
The exhibition will feature arrangements of work in the 1000 m2 of the top floor of Temoskali, a former publishing house and upcoming community art space in the heart of Mexico City's arts district. Suite No1 brings together art, design, architecture & culinary art by the deliberate installation and construction of the show within the extraordinary space @Temoskali. We consider the exhibition space equally a part of the curation as the artwork itself.
Suite Nº1, Fundación Maceta’s inaugural presentation, is an exploration of artistic creation as a means for creating community. The artists use materials and experimentation as a way of situating viewers within space and the world, finding the beauty in the banal and everyday. Engaging in practices spanning drawing and painting, sculpture, photography, design, and installation, the participating artists collectively navigate the intricacies of our contemporary world. The exhibition critically brings together emerging and mid-career artists endeavors and each, in a unique way, sees the act of creating as a means of responding to the incredible world that surrounds us.
Because the concept of community lies in the heart of the exhibition, diverse artistic voices are able to converge to contribute to a shared world of creative expression. The meticulously curated selection of artworks showcase an engagement with materiality, encompassing both the chosen mediums and the subjects explored. Each piece is approached with care, considering both the materials employed and the subject matter addressed, thus, emphasizing the interconnectedness between the tangible and intangible elements of our shared reality.
The theme of pushing material boundaries and embracing experimentation permeates the exhibition space, as artists employ a diverse range of techniques and mediums to convey their messages. From powerful social and political commentary to explorations of surface and texture, the artworks stretch the limits of conventional artistic boundaries. Situated within Temoskali, the exhibition space takes on a presence of its own, as many of the artists engage with the architecture and think about how community and space intersect, and how a work is contained and held. The overarching intention of the exhibition is to inspire viewers to question, engage, and reflect on the world around them. As visitors immerse themselves in the diverse perspectives presented, they are left having witnessed the transformative power of artistic creation.
