Morton Subastas presents the Latin American Art Auction.
The path of art in Latin America began its journey at the beginning of the 16th century with the impact of the colonial period and the influences of European styles; Later, in the 19th century, curiosity about a search for an identity of one's own invaded the collective conscience. Later, the political and social changes caused by the wars created the construction of a linguistic term to simplify the new and free visual production of the center and north of the American continent: Latin American Art.
During the last decades the artistic production of this region has been a reflection of the cultural identity. Many creators have positioned themselves among the best at an international level and the coverage of their art is attributed, in part, to the sales results thanks to their presence in exhibitions, biennials, fairs and auctions, because despite suffering a health emergency, Latin American work has not had the intention of limiting itself. On the contrary, it has continued to evolve with a positive impact among collectors.
Now, it is Morton's turn to contribute to the strengthening of this market, through the second edition of the 2022 Latin American Art Auction, in which 180 lots will be offered with the aim of diversifying the modern and contemporary art options of the hand of important artists who have dominated the Latin art scene.
“Arcano III” stands out in a special way, a piece from the 90s by the Mexican painter and writer Gunther Gerzso, made with an extraordinary geometric cleanliness that recalls pre-Hispanic temples in a mystical and magical sense. Likewise, a magnificent theatrical performance by Virginia Fábregas stands out, painted by the father of Mexican modernism: Saturnino Herrán.
In this catalog you will also find a section with six paintings by the muralist Francisco Eppens, a self-portrait of the writer, philosopher and volcanologist Gerardo Murillo “Dr. Atl”, an oil painting by Francisco Corzas executed in Rome in 1973, as well as landscapes by David Alfaro Siqueiros, Joaquín Clausell and José María Velasco.
Other extraordinary artists that make up this auction are the Venezuelans Jesús Rafael Soto and Darío Pérez Flores, the Chilean Edwin Rojas and from Peru Alfredo Alcalde García and Fernando de Szyszlo. From Mexico, the works of Jorge González Camarena, Mathias Goeritz, Rodolfo Nieto, Ricardo Martínez, Ángel Zárraga, Rodolfo Morales, Luis Nishizawa, Julio Galán, Rafael Coronel, Manuel Felguérez and Juan Soriano, among others, stand out.
The specialists of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art will gladly provide advice and support during the purchase process. In the same way, we invite you not to miss the opportunity to visit the previous exhibition of this wonderful auction.
