Ambar Quijano

today open 11:00AM 5:00PM

Ámbar Quijano presents the inaugural exhibition Partículas by Sebastián Hidalgo.

After months of careful planning and preparation, Ambar Quijano is launching her gallery of the same name. The official opening of her contemporary art gallery, which has found a home that marries domestic elements with traditional contemporary methods of exhibition, allows for a dialogue to develop between the artwork inside and the context that surrounds it through well-curated exhibitions that connect collectors, artists and cultural institutions.

Quijano, an independent curator and art advisor dedicated to discovering and supporting unique voices within contemporary art, graduated with distinction from both her BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Theory at Chelsea College of Art, London and MSc in Art Law and Business at Christie’s Education, London. Having taken on a variety of roles within the art world, she has worked in the Post-War and Contemporary Department at Christie’s in London, at Phileas - A Fund for Contemporary Art in Vienna, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, and a sampling of London galleries. The Ambar Quijano project began as an art advisory for experienced collectors as well as people looking to begin their collecting journey and has, through the years, grown and developed to also include an engaging exhibitions programme.

The opening of this space highlights Quijano's trajectory as an active part of the contemporary art scene on a national and international level and in this way, providing a space capable of bringing collectors, art historians, artists, connoisseurs and people in general, closer to fresh and innovative artistic proposals.

On May 21st, Ambar Quijano, located at Astrónomos 62, C, Escadón II, CDMX, will open its doors for the first time with the exhibition Partículas by Sebastián Hidalgo, which will showcase a variety of works by the Mexico-born and based artist. This engaging exhibition comprises Hidalgo’s most recent production and functions as a culmination of the artist’s 10+ year career. Known for exploring psychedelia, dreams and contemplation, Hidalgo brings together anthropology, cartoons, archaic art, sci-fi and mysticism in his practice.

Partículas is primarily concerned with exploring the connections between the individual and the collective. Employing visuals sourced from his everyday life and using vehicles —moving collectively through the streets but containing individuals— as metaphors, Hidalgo seeks to reconcile the internal world with the external experience. Depicting shapes morphing and turning into other forms until they become dematerialized and representative of the idea of particles as the unifying agent of our experience.

Sebastián Hidalgo (b.1985, Mexico) lives and works in Cholula, Mexico. Hidalgo’s practice has been anchored in a constant exploration that has allowed him to generate a polyvalent body of work while searching for a sensation of expansion and unity through ideas of psychedelia, dream, memory and contemplative states of mind. Hidalgo studied at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain and Unarte, Puebla, Mexico. Recent exhibitions include solo shows Encounters with Neptune at Fortnight Institute, New York (2023); and Solar Radio, Saenger Gallery, Mexico City (2022), and group exhibitions at Fortnight Institute, New York (2022); Harkawik, New York (2022); La

Quiñonera, Mexico City (2022); Karen Huber Gallery, Mexico City (2020); International Baroque Museum, Puebla (2020), and more.
