This, That and the Other
Guided tour

Saenger Gallery presents the guided tour of Scott Reeder's This, That and the Other exhibition.
Scott Reeder was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1970. He is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. Reeder contemplates in his artistic practice all possible aspects, including content, processes, media, materials, and his biography itself, as useful tools with which he conducts a cultural critique through his work. Reeder resembles a chameleon that he displays through painting, books, sculpture, film, public performance and the creation of consumer objects, unexpected ways to achieve his ends. In this sense, his works function both as protagonists and critics who scrutinize the field of art of which they participate and are a part. Reeder's work is self-aware and doesn't take anything too seriously, especially himself, which often borders on satire. Some examples include his series Cute Communistes (2007), which brings together images of famous communist leaders painted in the manner of children's cartoons; or his painting Cops Ascending a Staircase (2009), a reference to Marcel Duchamp's most famous work; and his series of spaghetti paintings, in which the silhouettes of various types of cooked and uncooked spaghetti are used as the basis for abstract linear compositions.
