The Sky and I Agree
Guided tour
-> Jun 18 2025 – Jun 20 2025
Saenger Galería presents guided tours of The Sky and I Agree by Scott Reeder at Casa Gilardi on June 18 and 20th at 10:30am.
Painter, sculptor, ceramicist, filmmaker, musician, curator, and teacher—Scott Reeder is a full-fledged artist.
For “The Sky and I Agree,” the artist’s second solo exhibition in Mexico, Casa Gilardi by Luis Barragán was chosen as the venue due to the architectural qualities of the space itself and the rich repertoire of experiences and history the house holds—most notably, David Hockney’s stay in Mexico during the 1980s.
In this exhibition, Reeder presents various bodies of work, ranging from paintings in his acclaimed series “Surealistic Still Life Paintings,” “List Paintings,” and “Word Paintings,” to his incredible ceramics, which restore a unique character to the everyday objects we use daily.
Throughout the exhibition, Reeder seeks to create an experience for the viewer by setting up a sort of treasure hunt for the works, distributed along the route the house naturally suggests—a game of clues and discovery, with even the possibility of mistaking a site-specific object for one of his pieces, acting as a kind of trap that opens up a more playful and insightful way of approaching his artistic practice.
Another fact that cannot go unnoticed is the connection between Reeder and Hockney through landscape painting, which is the central focus of this exhibition: scenes of naïve and everyday landscapes, full of color and surrealism, where the perfect pair—a slice of bread and a stick of butter—enjoy leisure and the contemplation of nature, as if time were frozen and tomorrow didn’t exist.
