Proyecto H, Residencia

Santiago Paredes presents the results of his residence in Proyecto H.

Argentine artist Santiago Paredes has been developing his residency at Proyecto H since August, as part of a program that fosters dialogue between contemporary artistic practices and the local context. A self-taught artist from Buenos Aires, Paredes began his journey in music and discovered in the image an expansive territory that led him to experiment with materials as diverse as silk, plush, corduroy, plexiglass, and aluminum before venturing into large-format analog painting.

His non-academic training, nourished by the internet, independent publications, and art monographs, has resulted in a precise and colorful visual language that draws on influences ranging from Persian miniatures and Japanese printmaking to haute couture and contemporary pop culture. His creative process begins with the image as a trigger, from which he seeks the materiality that best gives it body and presence.

In recent years, his practice has shifted toward painting on canvas, embracing the physicality of manual gesture and the beauty of human error. In this latest stage, he explores books, fruits, and domestic scenes as pretexts to poetically render the everyday, constructing compositions that invite viewers to discover new layers of complexity and beauty in the simple.
