A life that’s never really ours

Calido Taller presents the exhibition A life that's never really ours by Sandra Morales in Laguna.
As life inhabits our bodies, so does a profound (even if unconscious) anxiety of extinction. Then comes the agonizing realization that we exist in a finite body and that all future possibilities will remain unrealized. The devastating -albeit powerful- awareness of knowing we and everything we love will come to an end, leaves us with an urgent need to really, truly live. Through death, we awaken to life.
But to really, truly live, we must lie. Our existence shrinks to a world of meaning. Life becomes the inescapable business of growing into illusions that, we believe, are part of something eternal and embedded with cosmic significance. We cling to these fictions that transcend our finite body and prove we are not merely human animals, destined to decay and die.
We abandon ourselves to a narrative meant to be a beautiful pretense of being a purely symbolic animal. Until we part, hoping our lives accomplished a lie worthy of our death. Wishing that, in the moment of our last breath, we are able to feel something, to experience all there is to experience, to love everything there is to be loved.
