Welcome to the dollhouse

Salón Silicón presents Welcome to the dollhouse by Sandra Blow and Romeo Gomez López.
An exhibition about playing dolls and the cultural, cyborg and hyperconsumerist process involved in becoming one.
Romeo is a conspicuous consumer of action figures, which he heads off to sculpt those who have not entered the toy industry. A Foucault, Harry Styles, Divine, Justin Bieber. Out there in his studio is a Sophia Lorenllorando and a Kate Winslet from Titanic running around in her robe with her axe. It is perhaps the scale on which she feels most comfortable as an artist, and her personal security blanket.
Sandra's work is about her friends, armed with nails, heels and rhinestones. In Sayak Valencia's words, “femininity as a job that is produced and made profitable”. It is not about being beautiful, much less about having a body within the standards of the western white, but about investing in oneself as a survival strategy, understanding in a Foucauldian way that power is not given by itself, you have to look like a bitch to get it.
