Salón COSA is a biannual meeting of contemporary objects: a new model of collecting and exhibition platform for contemporary art and design in Mexico.
Salón COSA mixes curatorship, collecting, and socializing, all in one, on an intimate scale. It proposes to annul the hierarchical or categorical divisions between creative disciplines: its objective is to present exceptional objects and to be the best showcase of collectible objects in Mexico. That is why they have rethought the traditional format of exhibition, gallery or fair. By eliminating the cost for participation or acquisition of space for invited creators where they offer a space for more diverse, risky and original proposals.
THIRD EDITION
Cantina Cosa for this edition, Salón COSA returns as part of the 2022 Art Week. On this occasion, it enters the heart of the city, in the bowels of the Historic Center, to occupy an old canteen; where the past, the present and the future are confused between eclectic architecture, snack bars, party places and orthopedic shops.
In a rhythmic and decadent environment, recent and unpublished works by 22 of the most proactive artists and designers in Mexico are displayed. Bathed in red light and blue metallic flashes, rare, desirable, non-conformist objects seem to dance on the floor, in a scene reminiscent of the cabarets of yesteryear, which survived in the city, at least until before the pandemic. To the rhythm of corridos, lying cumbias, and romantic songs, those attending this edition of Salón COSA will enjoy a daring, sublime aesthetic experience, like no other in Chilango Art Week.
On its return to Mexico City, Salón COSA presents the work of the following creators: Andrés Monnier, Andy Medina, Anuar Maauad, Bertrand Fompeyrine, Bestia, Cecilia Barreto, Chuch Estudio, Esteban Tamayo, Georgina Treviño, Ileana Moreno, Jardín, Jimena Montemayor, Marcelo Suro, Marek Wolfryd, Mucho Estudio/Taller, Natalia Ramos, Panorammma, Ramiro Chaves, Rutso, Sebastián Beltrán, Victor Barragán, Xavi Lorand.
Behind Salón COSA are the salonerxs: Daniela Elbahara (gallery owner, cultural manager and founder of Material Art Fair) and Mario Ballesteros (curator and editor, former director of Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura and the Mexican edition of Domus magazine).
