Sabino Guisu

Fuego Negro solo show by Oaxacan artist Sabino Guisu (Juchitán, Oaxaca, 1986) offers a vision where the primordial and original ancient cultures of México fuse with the present, establishing a critique of the contemporary man that faces modernity without a memory of the past.

The symbolic force of this message permeates the work, transiting from light installations to pieces full of craftmanship that reflect a past of imagination and ritual. The result is a body of work that can be attributed to Sabino Guisu's last decade of creation. His need to preserve a series of vanishing languages, ecological concerns, and his innovative modifications of national history, are suberbly expressed in his works.

GUI YASEE´ (Black Fire in Zapotec) is Guisu's first individual exhibition in Mexico City. This solo debut, marks a separate and contemplative point in the artist´s career, as he presents unpublished work that continue with the usual explorations found in his work. In summary, Fuego Negro is an outstanding opportunity to appreciate the imaginative vision of one of the most assertive artists from southern Mexico.
