The Rainy Season
Exhibition
-> Jul 8 2023 – Sep 23 2023
Labor presents The Rainy Season, the second solo exhibition in Mexico by American painter Roger White (Salem, OR, 1976).
At 12.30pm, the artist will be in conversation with painter Elsa-Louise Manceaux about this new series of paintings in which White explores the different manifestations of light in contact with everyday objects. Associated with beauty, allegory, and the passage of time, flowers have been a recurrent motif in the history of art. Awash in bright, saturated colors, this new body of work produced by White in the first half of 2023 breaks with the minimalism and austerity that have been reflected in his gray paintings of empty rooms and plastic containers. Lighting conditions and their subtle variations caused by natural and artificial light sources are also protagonists in this series. Glass is an element that multiplies the suggestions: the vase that contains them, the table that supports them, the reflection of a window outside the frame of the image, the mirror in which they sometimes seem to look or duplicate themselves.
Roger White honestly reveals the most intimate gestures of his artistic process, involving the viewer in the natural fluctuations and vacillations of the pictorial activity.
