Rodrigo Garagarza

Terreno Baldío presents the exhibition Simetria Radial by Rodrigo Garagarza.

Rodrigo Garagarza's sculptural exploration stems from his fascination with a variety of easily identifiable objects in our everyday environment. These belong to dissimilar categories and typological sets, but they share a common geometry. Its forms are structured from symmetrical axes intersected at a central node and organized radially. The vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines that compose them become extremities, arranged in opposite pairs and repeated as units, or give rise to curved surfaces that alternate between narrow and wide.

Garagarza's sculptures play with our perception and frame a strangeness in what we can recognize in our daily lives. The selection of pieces made by the artist himself allows us to appreciate the particularities of the geometries in question and calls us to ask ourselves: did the object I approach become larger or did I become smaller? As viewers of these familiar forms, we are confronted with our own scale and perspective.
