Project H presents On Perspective by Rafael Barrios and Patrick Hughes.

The exhibition On Perspective takes its title from the profound optical game that the artists Patrick Hughes and Rafael Barrios managed to develop. From the 60s to the present, these two artists have promoted a prolific career around Op Art. Rafael Barrios, a Venezuelan artist, plays with figures and alters the laws of geometry. His sculptures are characterized by breaking with orthodox directionality, accessing new possibilities of perception. One of the great philosophers of our times, Marshal McLuhan, said at a conference in Toronto in 1973: “The work of Rafael Barrios is like fresh fruit for thought.” Patrick Hughes also plays with geometry and develops his concept in painting: “reverspective.” “When the principles of perspective are inverted and solidified in sculpted paintings, something extraordinary happens; “The mind is tricked into believing the impossible: a static painting can move on its own,” says Patrick Hughes. The sculptures of Rafael Barrios, dizzying, mobile, dynamic, and at the same time light, complement the paintings of Patrick Hughes with the paradox of movement and illusion. Project H presents recent work by both artists, with the work of the English artist Hughes being on display for the first time in Mexico City.
