To pulse the void is an exhibition of four artists interested in drawing: Elvira Acosta, Sebastián Fonnegra, Brenda Pacheco and María Fernanda Vicencio, who approach drawing as a medium, a conundrum and as research method.

This exhibition puts a strain on contemplation (landscape-portrait) and memory (traces, imprints). Two surviving forces in the maelstrom of time that build and express their own vulnerability.

To think about the vulnerable as resistance is perhaps one of the most disquieting premises of drawing. Michaux referred to it as: what resists with all its strength the fundamental drive to leave no traces.

Resistance and vulnerability are two seemingly contrary concepts, but intertwined, they allow us to visualize the broad registers that contemporary drawing explores. In this exhibition, the vulnerability of materials such as paper, graphite, inks, threads, pigments, as well as what appears on the works (light spectrums, shadows, shapes, colors, tones, etc.) are also presented as a resistance to time, oblivion and emptiness. In that sense we can recognize in the work of the four artists the need to assert from what its being denied. It’s a complex relationship where, by resisting emptiness and oblivion, they are also making them present. Therein lies its poetics, its connection with what has not been said, with the absence from which line and gesture emerge.
