Proyecto Arcadia is nestled within Arcadia, the lifelong work of Irma Sofía Poeter — a habitable space based on the five elements of matter, each materialized in a house/studio: Casa Aire, Casa Tierra, Casa Fuego, Casa Agua, and Casa Éter. The residency at Casa Tierra is designed to stimulate creative work. Its unique location, surroundings, and architecture — at the foothills of the sacred Cuchumá mountain, just meters away from the U.S. border wall and bordered by an ecological reserve — make it an ideal place for reflection, depth, and introspection.
Casa Tierra is built with straw bales and coated in adobe. It was conceived as a sustainable home where materials such as straw, clay, reed, and wood fully express their practical and aesthetic potential. Local clay was used in the construction, along with reeds from a nearby stream, serving both decorative and functional purposes in the closet and kitchen doors, as well as the ceiling covering. Most of the furniture — including the bed, bedside tables, vanity, dining table (crafted from a tree trunk), and benches — is integrated into the architecture itself. Structurally, the house transitions from a square form, reflecting the shape of the adjacent brick house (Casa Fuego), to a circular, organic space.
