Una hoja cae
Exhibition
-> Aug 2 – Oct 11
Patricia Conde presents Martha Hellion's exhibition Una hoja cae in the gallery library. Curated by Patricia Lagarde.
Hellion has developed an interdisciplinary practice that encompasses drawing, dance, design, set design, and performance. She studied architecture and museum design and specialized in experimental art in England and the Netherlands. In the 1970s, she co-founded Beau Geste Press, an independent publishing project associated with the Fluxus movement, from which she promoted an international network of artists and independent publications. Among the creators who collaborated with the publishing house are Carolee Schneemann, Michael Nyman, Cecilia Vicuña, and Ulises Carrión.
A Leaf Falls offers an intimate look at one of Hellion's thematic obsessions: the garden as poetic territory. Using various graphic techniques and materials, the artist collects leaves, whether natural, drawn, or printed, and intervenes with silver, line, or texture to transform them into paper landscapes. In her work, the garden becomes a space for contemplation, where the falling of a leaf also represents a gesture of time and memory.
