Marta Roberti

Italian Institute of Culture and Error present the exhibition Cuando era ahora by the Italian artist Marta Roberti.

This exhibition brings together a body of work made up of drawings and bronze sculptures that the artist produced during her residency in Mexico.

Marta's work focuses on the reinterpretation of the mythologies, the rituals, the symbols that the artist goes through and collects; on the other, she investigates, through self-portrait, the positioning of her present body in relation to these repertoires that have been perpetrated since ancient times. In particular, at this moment her work focuses on the gesture as a common bodily experience and empathic possibility.

This exhibition was produced within the framework of the Lingue Sorelle / Sister Languages project co-produced by IIC México and Error. The purpose of this program is to create an opportunity for Italian and Mexican artists to meet, fostering a joint reflection on the concept of translation based on research on methods, codes, words that delve into poetic and linguistic experiences, as well as visual languages or methods of cultural transmission.

Marta Roberti lives and works in Rome. After graduating in Philosophy, she graduated in Film and Video at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. Drawing is the main medium that she uses in installations and animated videos, through which she explores the relationships between human beings, other animals and the plant world, studying and reworking myths and their representation between East and West. In 2020, she won the Cantica de Maeci and Mibact competition and her work, the Bestiary of the Other World, entered the collection of the National Institute of Graphics in Rome. In 2021, she won the tenth edition of the Santa Croce Grafica Prize with her engraving Crocuta Crocuta Mating, which became part of the collection of the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of Villa Pacchiani.
