Proyecto H presents Bordar el fuego by Marta Moreno at Museo Franz Mayer.
The exhibition includes pieces from her outstanding Hanabi series, the result of her participation in the Proyecto H artist residency, where the artist explored the possibilities of embroidery as a means of contemporary expression.
Hanabi is inspired by early historical records of pyrotechnics, specifically the catalogs created in 1877 by Jinta Hirayama in Yokohama, Japan. These catalogs, designed with plates in the Japanese print style to display shapes and colors of fireworks, have been reinterpreted by Marta Moreno in textile format. With worsted yarns, the artist embroiders and gives volume to each canvas, numbering them and transforming them into unique pieces that combine history and technique.
Marta Moreno's work defies the gender stereotypes associated with embroidery, a discipline she learned during her childhood and which, since 2020, has become the center of her artistic practice. For her, embroidery is not only a feminine medium, but a tool for tracing and shaping, prioritizing the tactile in her creations. Her themes revolve around universal and organic aspects that transcend cultural barriers, creating a meaningful dialogue with the viewer.
