On the third weekend of the exhibition Actos de imagen by Mariela Sancari, Lateral presents a durational performative activation that delves into the relationship between her body and the space in which it is located.
Mariela Sancari (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1976). She has lived and worked in Mexico City since 1997. Her work uses personal narratives to explore the limits of the scope of photography as a medium of representation. Her work refers both to the affective - though not sentimental - dimension of autobiographical work, as well as formal explorations of the medium, through questions related to staging, self-referentiality in photographic practice and its mechanisms of signification.
Founder of FOLIO, the public collection of photobooks at the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City. She has published three (photo)books: Moisés (La Fábrica, 2015 / 2nd self-published edition, 2022), Mr. & Dr. (This books is true, 2017) in collaboration with writer Adolfo Córdova and El caballo de dos cabezas. Representation in ten acts (Asunción Casa Editora, 2021).She has received numerous awards: winner of the VI Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales Yucatán 2013 and the Premio Descubrimientos PHotoEspaña 2014, her work was selected in the XVI Bienal de Fotografía del Centro de la Imagen and received Honourable Mention in the XI Bienal Monterrey FEMSA, among others.
She has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Athens, Barcelona, Bratislava, Buenos Aires, Busan, Guatemala City, Dublin, Houston, Jaipur, Los Angeles, London, Madrid, Oaxaca, Tenerife.
