Structure?

Galería de Arte Mexicano presents Structures? by Luke Hart, curated by Regina Campos and M.S. Yániz.
Luke Hart's sculptural work stands at the crossroads of the forces of reality in materialist terms and how those forces are used. We can wander, look, and perceive ourselves as subjects witnessing the unfolding of forms in the expanse of space, through the simple contingency of the encounter with a constructive display of matter and gravity. Force is suspended in order to question what sustains what we understand as the real. Spaces, series, repetition, matter, force.
Historically, carbon steel is the material upon which aesthetic modernity was founded -in terms of use value-. However, Hart reveals the expressive potential of the material through a series of unusual objects. He takes us to the factory of statements about the origin of capital: concrete blocks as the minimum constitutive element of a field of meaning. materials = real space.
We can understand Luke's pieces through a study of gravity: What are the minimal points that sustain a body, and how many of them are there? In this exploration of movement, what matters is the weight and modes of contact that maintain a form in the extension of time; it is art as a concrete system. The temptation is to assign a referential statement. The objects Luke constructs are not metaphors for anything; on the contrary, they are pure information, understood as the mere process by which matter takes form.
