LABOR presents Una que cubre la palabra que la nombra by Luis Camnitzer.

In this, the first exhibition in a Mexican gallery since 1968 of Uruguayan artist Luis Camnitzer, we take a journey through his artistic production from those years, when he was part of the New York Graphic Workshop, to the present day. It is of special interest to us to present in Mexico City not only the works closest to the Latin American experience, but also those that had an impact on the development of global conceptual art over these sixty years. Thus, the political sense of Camnitzer's work, as well as the sense of the political in conceptual art and in contemporary life, takes on a central role. Beyond the literal references to the development of Latin American guerrilla movements and their repression by various dictatorships, these works as a whole mordantly dismantled the exercise of power in all spheres of human life. At the center of Camnitzer's exploration, both formal and conceptual, lies the explicitation of the public's implication and the revelation of the communicative circuit that not only allows every work of art to exist, but also allows every message to insert itself into the receiver's psyche. Beyond the concrete poetry or graphic art that preceded it, the typographic and literal resources in Camnitzer's work strip bare the constant implication of the spectator in modern mechanisms, such as advertising or propaganda, to insert the message into their psyche. Whether as a new necessity or as the revelation of an ancient truth, this constant disquisition around the psychic mechanisms of the contemporary world confers upon Camnitzer's work its true and universal political sense.
