Lucía Hinojosa

Pequod Co. presents the listening session + sound action Sonoro rugir by Lucía Hinojosa.

Sonoro rugir (Anti-hymn) is a score/performance that uses the iteration of the eroded traces of the Mexican National Anthem to turn them into whispers. In it, Lucía Hinojosa Gaxiola uses the weather conditions to simulate the interference of radio transmissions. For this event at Pequod Co., the piece is transformed into a collage between sound, body and language that act in a process of dis/composition to dismantle the symbols linked to the hegemonic powers and show their failure. Thus, Sonoro roar is a rewriting ritual to communicate with the earth from its sounds.
