Leslie García | Mai Mai Mai

The Italian Institute of Culture presents an evening of sound and video projections by Mexican sound artist Leslie Garcia. and the Mai Mai Mai video & sound project.

She will play Medium, sound pieces that explore the ritual processes of shamanic music in Mexico. The Italian sound and video project Mai Mai Mai introduces Nel Sud, an album that continues to explore the history of the Mediterranean, a journey into the past of southern Italy, made through original images taken from Italian ethnic documentaries made during the 60s and 70s .

Mai Mai Mai is an audio and video project, an idiosyncratic examination of Mediterranean and southern Italian folklore, a dark journey into the traditions of the past, made of blurred memories and nebulous sounds.

It can be considered as a "Mediterranean Hauntology", which avoids the pitfalls of nostalgia but revives the ghosts of a lost past in the form of an evocative ritual.

Leslie García is a sound artist and developer of electronic art and digital media projects. She explores the process of fusion between art and technology, using techniques such as the production of virtual tools, development of electronic prototypes, audio production, design of net.art pieces and generative visual codes, development of hardware and biological interfaces. She does electronic music production under the aliases of Microhm, LogarDecay and LatamTapes. She is co-founder of the bioart collective Interspecifics, the electronic media collective DreamAddictive, and is a member of Astrovandalistas in Mexico City.

The event is part of Hacese Mundo, a public program curated by Matteo Binci, made for the Italian Institute of Culture of Mexico City.
