Although often perceived negatively, 13 is a number which was once considered sacred. In many ancient cultures, it was a number which represented divine femininity, due to its correspondence to the 13 lunar cycles which take place within a year. Because of the solar calendar replacing the lunar, the divinity of this number was manipulated into becoming cursed.Having concluded with 13 pieces, it seemed appropriate to re-portray this number into its original, sacred form.

This body of work is an exploration of various themes, combining stream of consciousness with surrealism, Mesoamerican folklore, melancholia and duality, conveyed through the medium of collage. There was no intention for these pieces to form a storyline, they each came to life through what was being experienced at the time of their creation, and they slowly began to show a sense of familiarity and subconscious reason. This series was largely created during  2020, with this world going through a universal shift, turbulent yet imperative, it is normal that as human beings we have all been affected by this movement.

Being used to looking outwards, exploring all that is around us, in contrast, Trece highlights imagery of what has been moving and reverberating internally, with a recurring theme of self-portraiture. This series tells of a subjective feminine embodiment of intensity and transition.
