José Luis Sánchez Rull

The exhibition brings together two recent polyptychs —Jugular Veins and El duro deseo de durar— along with the print series Suite San Loco, as well as selected paintings from the artist’s career, including Autoretrete, Huesos en el desierto, and De-Ja Voo Doo B. These works trace a journey through the memory of painting, exploring phenomena such as déjà vu and layers of references to the European pictorial tradition, from the second half of the 13th century to the developments of contemporary abstract painting. Sánchez Rull brings painting back to a “zero point,” stripping away the superfluous to reveal the essence of the pictorial act.
