Jorge Méndez Blake

Proscenios literarios

The Cabañas Museum presents Proscenios literarios, the retrospective exhibition of visual artist Jorge Méndez Blake (Guadalajara, 1974), which premise is to offer an exhaustive review of his career: Literary Proscenios. The exhibition is made up of more than 70 works. Méndez Blake's artistic practice transfers various aesthetic and conceptual questions regarding language and literature to the field of plastic and visual arts. Aside from semantic and narrative archetypes, he opens unusual approaches to visual poetry, expanded writing, the rhythmic and formal meanderings of calligraphy, reading as a creative gesture, among other similar fields. Simultaneously, this artist investigates the architectural and taxonomic nature of libraries as structures and containers of knowledge. The book as an object in itself and its possible uses or displacements become the trigger for a wide series of literary resignifications, semantic and cognitive turns that materialize in sculptures, drawings, paintings, installations, murals and videos.
