As part of Condo Mexico City 2019, OMR is pleased to host Galerie Gisela Capitain with an exhibition of works by renowed British artist John Stezaker. Stezaker (b. 1949 in Worcester, England) has collected things since he was 10 years old, starting from stamps and moving toward postcards and static images like film stills and publicity portraits, to say he is an accumulator is an understatement; he has now amassed hundreds of thousands of found images providing the tools with which he creates his art. His works are a form of collage that juxtapose one image against another to create something new which is slightly surreal and thought-provoking. For instance, by simply placing an old hand-colored postcard of a landscape across a face he creates a strange new world where the romantic pictorial tradition meets surrealist iconoclasm. The end results are always both deceptively simple in their execution and oddly disturbing in their suggestion.
