Ritos de paso

Exhibition

-> Dec 12 2024 – Jan 7 2025

Art Latinou presents Ritos de paso by Ileana Moreno, with DJ set by Victoria Volkova during the opening.

In ritual there is no solitude; it is the perpetual dance of souls, connected across time and space.

-Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run with the Wolves

Ritual is in everything. By participating in ritual, we are complicit in acts that determine and transform the environment. Historically, the feminine has been loaded with repeated acts that define women's behavior through cultural and social norms.

The work of lleana Moreno contains references to the past within the pre-Hispanic imaginary and Mexican culture, accompanied with symbols of what is determinantly feminine: the body and identity. Her work maintains a chromatic persistence within the use of different media, mainly painting, 3D printing, textile, installation and performance. Her disruptive aesthetic shows how the rituals of femininity are not something fixed or limited, but personal practices charged with symbolism and resistance.

Ritos de paso invites to suspend the feminine in an ambiguous state to be configured with a new identity. This transformation praises, questions and reinterprets the contextual and traditional heritage of gender in a space where lleana's works reflect an expansive language of women.
