Claudio Ríos Sánchez

La danza del escultor

Exhibition

-> Aug 20 – Aug 23

GALERA 32 and NMAD present La danza del escultor by Claudio Ríos Sánchez.

In this exhibition, Claudio Ríos demonstrates his desire to breathe life into objects through his creative processes. He makes monumental pieces that sophisticatedly evoke the altars of his spiritual tradition: the Yoruba religion. Carving wood to the rhythm of songs and sounds; recovering ancestral forms and figures; using clay, wood, reeds, stone... all of this infuses his work with poignant meaning and purpose.

The works we will see are not intended for ritual purposes, but in them we perceive the artist's profound vision of his function as a sculptor: one that goes beyond the production of objects to be observed. He invites us to reconnect with the spiritual. He restores art to its role as a link to the sacred.

The exhibition presents the result of a chapter in his career that combines his education in Mexican Expressionism and his search for the connection between technique and materials with their ceremonial use within Yoruba culture.

Visits by appointmente from August 20 to 22 between 10 am and 7 pm.

A discussion is scheduled for 5 pm on August 23rd, to examine the origins and cultural influences of the works, followed by an opening cocktail reception at 7 pm.
