Gabinetes de curiosidades
Exhibition

Servidor Local presents Gabinete expandido de curiosidades, exhibition by Carla Hernández.
Gabinetes de curiosidades, those small spaces, sometimes tiny and hidden, where people used to collect precious and exotic objects brought from different parts of the world. The cabinet functions as a means to seek knowledge through objects extracted from their context with the intention of generating new relationships between them; for many, these spaces were a way of creating a representation of the world.
In this way, Expanded Gabinetes de curiosidades emerges, an exercise that combines leaves, branches and fruits with natural materials such as clay, wood or stone to recreate various work tables with which Carla experiments to develop her work as a landscape agent.
For Carla, the conditions of the various places where she develops her practice are signs that help the development of her work. The sun, ventilation, temperature and humidity are the components with which it interacts every day to almost empirically create new landscapes. Beyond a classification, these tables seek to reflect the patience of the impermanence of nature, where the technique becomes alchemical and the result is a state of connection with the context through the enjoyment of the process and observation. From cyanotypes, photographs, exotic objects or skeletons, the expanded Cabinet of Curiosities is made up of four thematic axes:
Naturalia: Objects produced by nature, such as minerals or objects that had, carried or accompanied life.
Exotic: Result of collecting objects in distant places, objects foreign to Carla's daily life.
Scientifica: Testaments of human abilities to observe nature, tools that have led us to explore and interpret the world.
Artificialia: Antiques, works of art private collection with works by Hugo Sanchez, Erick Conceka, Axelle Russo, Pablo Kobayashi, Ksenia Novikova and Paulina Vazquez.
These tables expand an image of the world, in a reflection of a time coming from the imperative need to capture what is natural and observe in detail something attractive. This cabinet is the set of objects that speak of the way in which the world appears to Carla.
Carla Hernandez
Landscape agent with explorations in photography, design and architecture. Her creative process flows intuitively with the vegetation, materials and the place from which she works. In search of a container for plants, Carla has experimented with clay, stone and wood, which has led her to create sculptural forms that accompany and generate her daily life.
Carla values diversity and collaboration and in an exercise of mimicking vegetation, she actively seeks to create a network of connection with artisans, teachers and other creative minds to cultivate and harvest knowledge.
