Unión (espacio para artistas) presents Salon of the indigenous god a visual art exhibition by multimedia artist Ben Yisrael.
The Exhibition highlights the lives of Indigenous power figures spanning 4000 years. In this exhibition, Indigenous is defined as People originating from the First Nations of the Americas and the Continent Commonly Called Africa. This exhibition previously showcased in Seattle, WA, and Art School KC in Kansas City. The current exhibition will center art inspired by indigenous Mexican and Mesoamerican culture. Attempts to erase, obscure, and diminish indigenous cultures and histories have been widespread throughout North and South America.
The Salon of the Indigenous highlights and acknowledges important historical figures through the prism of Indigenous interpretation without respect for Western critique.
Heritage, culture and the birthright of indigenous people to name and define our own identity and heroes is the spirit of this exhibition. salon of the indigenous god is in Praise of Indigenous leaders that shaped the course of world history, past, current, and future.
Ben Yisrael is a visual artist, performance poet, and storyteller. The Individual World Poetry Slam 17th ranked poet in 2012, and the National Poetry Slam Haiku Champion in 2014 (USA). He is the co-founder of Mic Check, one of the longest-running poetry readings in Texas, and is a founder and curator at Alchemy Poetry Series in Seattle, WA. He released his debut poetry collection “A Gorgeous New Language” in August of 2020. His short film 84DD debuted at the Bloom FR exhibition at Common Area Maintenance in Seattle, WA in 2022. His visual art focuses on indigenous identity, power, and spiritual symbolism. His past art exhibitions include: BLOOM FR in Seattle WA (2022), Salon of the Indigenous Gods: Seattle WA, Kansas City (2022), Santos Patrones: Mexico City Art Week (2023).
