Entre historias, símbolos y reflejos

Art Latinou presents Barry Wolfryd's exhbition: Entre historias, símbolos y reflejos.

Barry Wolfryd explores the symbolic power of everyday objects that are part of popular culture, through the juxtaposition of antithetical elements he constructs spaces in which the viewer becomes aware of how each of these objects have played an important role in his development, influencing the way he relates to the world.

Throughout his career, Wolfryd has highlighted the relationship that toys have with the establishment of sociocultural norms, pointing out the accumulation of understood values involved in play, which have as their main objective to indoctrinate us and prepare us to interpret the role that has been socially assigned to us. In his compositions the toys appeal to childhood memories; it is in the collective character of the game that the artist finds the points of recognition that allow him to establish a dialogue with his viewer, thus managing to transmute each element into an "objuego" to promote an imaginative and playful exercise, which becomes a deep understanding of the dichotomies and ironies of life.

His works skillfully capture the eclectic socio-political panorama that cohabits Mexico, revealing the complex cultural framework of the post-modern society we are currently facing. Ironically, his colorfulness, shades and shadows are a portrait of the cold and crude reality.
