General Expenses presents Futuros Anticipados by Antonio Vidal. Schedule your visit here.

Speculative fiction—in its projection into the future—always raises very current issues. The elements of nature that appear in Antonio Vidal's large-format paintings herald a catastrophe. Fires, floods, and hurricanes are intertwined with a vast visual repertoire that incorporates biblical scenes, cave paintings, golem-like characters, pictorial references, and something that has been foretold for a long time but has not yet happened.

These works do not depict a specific event, a single, spectacular apocalypse. Anticipated futures are liminal stories that are activated individually and establish different turning points in each painting. There is a polysemy that writes micro-stories after our current dystopia. These future vestiges establish a connection between history and the future that awaits us, as if the past contained within it a secret index for our redemption.
