Roseta

Andrés Felipe Castaño (Bogota, Colombia, 1986) explores the image as the main sources of historical information. In Roseta, he delves into the idea of the original artwork and its constant reproduction either on printed or virtual images. Through the use of scholar materials, such as color pencils and sketch books, Castaño reproduces fragments of a painting, taken from diverse sources (history books, magazines, newspapers, etc). The unity of the fragments compose the entire original painting, although this is not any more the original one, instead it is a collection of reproductions. The works presented provoke questions on the way we receive and perceive artistic material, and specifically on the tension that comes between the pictorial language and the fotographic languge which is constantly shown through the mass media reproduction.
