Anastasia Zielinski

Eeeee presents the exhibition Verdant by Anastasia Zielinski, from November 19 to 23.

Verdant brings the lushness of Mexico’s plant life into focus. It is a reminder of what inhabited this place before civilization and what will remain when we are gone.

To create this body of work I visited some of the country’s manybotanical gardens and parks. These public places offer sanctuary, and necessary escape from the noise and busyness of everyday life. They allow one a moment to pause, reflect, and relax. Walking through these spaces is a moving meditation that fills me with quiet calm. My surroundings dissolve into patterns of color and light as I experience a sense of wonder, creative energy, and a desire to share these positive sensations with others.

My practice starts with these meditative walks accompanied by on-site drawings and photographs. In the studio, this material is used to inform multi-layered paintings and drawings. The addition of each layer and mark in a piece is an active search for the right amount of information with which to convey the spirit of these therapeutic environments. The result is vibrant, dense, detailed compositions with patterns and textures that may not exist at the source yet express it perfectly.
