Aldo Iram Juárez

Elogio de las sombras

Exhibition

-> Sep 14 2023 – Oct 6 2023

Local Server presents Elogio de las sombras, an exhibition project by Aldo Iram Juárez, photographer and visual artist who reflects on the photographic act and the social implications it has.

In Elogio de las sombras is a personal project by Aldo where he takes Junichiro Tanizaki's text as a starting point to share his own (un)learning about photography to stop aspiring to turn life into images and just live it. An exhibition that seeks to talk about photography from the criticism of the current consumption of images perceived as a fantasy for social networks, a globalized addiction.

The exhibition is divided into four moments/pieces that share Aldo's reflections on this project. 365 Actions for the Camera is a list created over a year using the Instagram stories function. Days is the result of a “ritual” consisting of taking one shutter a day every twenty-four hours, for one thousand ninety-six days, a selection of printed work that includes altered photographs from his archive and a selection of monochromes digitally recaptured to highlight the “burnt” shadows in the original image.

A very personal exhibition that shows the estrangement and resistance to photographic acceleration and overproduction in a dying environment where photography is not a mirror nor is it a window, but a mirage: projection of presumptions and aspirations without documentary function, introspection, or any other purpose other than the fleeting seduction of the viewer and the instant satisfaction of the people portrayed, at the expense of our habitat, consumed (in every sense ) by our insatiable ego.

Local Server is a linking point, a forum where dialogue happens; It is, in essence, a refuge for ideas, diversity, and exchanges. As a platform, it promotes cultural, art and design projects that champion discourses with an impact on society, seeking to benefit the closest environment and can be dispersed along the path of visitors.

As a physical space, it is home to exhibitions, installations, presentations and workshops that encourage contact between different languages and interests. Through its open call, Servidor Local remains receptive to proposals from those who seek to shape their ideas or are interested in exhibiting them. It has a bookstore, made up of books and object-books from independent, self-managed and (self-)sustainable publishers.
