Exhibition
-> Feb 8 2022 – Apr 2 2022
On the ocasion of the art week, Galería Karen Huber will present a dynamic program that includes two exhibitions at the gallery, as well as our participation in two fairs: Salón ACME and ZsONA MACO. The artists presented, both national and international, reflect our firmness in creating exhibition spaces and dialogues about contemporary painting.
Galería Karen Huber presents Western Retreat, the first solo show in Mexico by the African-American artist Akwetey Orraca-Tetteh (New York, 1980) curated by Fabiola Talavera (Monterrey, 1995). It features a series of paintings largely influenced by the artist’s relocation from New York to Mexico City in 2020, the exhibition’s title is a play on the word “retreat,” referring to a paradisiacal refuge where one can relax as well as to the act of withdrawing troops from a losing battle. With glaring hues and strokes that are defined on some occasions and blurred on others, these works show subjects practicing sports as entertainment and also entities in an idyllic state of pleasure and joy. In addition to his pictorial work, the exhibition integrates Orraca-Tetteh’s interdisciplinary output in the fields of sound, performance, digital art, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
In its project room, the gallery presents a group show which brings toghether works by Marc Breslin, Nicole Chaput, Merike Estna, Endy Hupperich, Othiana Roffiel, Lucía Vidales, Allan Villavicencio. The exhibition reflects the curatorial line of the gallery and the proposal of the artists who approach contemporary painting from different angles. Mostly unseen works will be presented.
