Aguas Frescas | Maternar la Lengua

TONO Festival 2025

The Anahuacalli Museum is part of the programming for the TONO Festival 2025, an international event that celebrates contemporary art through various disciplines such as video art, performance, and experimental music. From March 28 to April 6, the museum will host two free activities: Aguas Frescas and Maternar la Lengua.

The performance Aguas Frescas, inspired by the Mexican tradition of drinking horchata and other flavored water beverages, seeks to explore collectivity through a "fountain of poetry" created with contributions from invited poets, artists, and musicians. This project, co-produced with Mudam, Luxembourg, will feature collaborations with artists such as Ariane Pellicer, Diles que no me maten, and Ana G. Zambrano (March 29); and Abraham Cruzvillegas, Susana Vargas, Luisa Almaguer, Luis Felipe Fabre, and Dario Afb (March 30). The performances will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 PM as part of the festival's artistic offerings.

Meanwhile, Maternar la lengua, a performance-reading by Adam Linder, will be presented on April 1 at 7:00 PM. Through movement and free dance, Linder will reflect on the layers of experience that emerge in real time while connecting with theories, culture, and personal experiences, all accompanied by an eclectic musical selection ranging from Bach to Sinéad O’Connor.

As part of the festival, the Anahuacalli Museum also continues to present the exhibition ¿Cómo se escribe muerte al sur? by artists Carolina Fusilier and Paloma Contreras Lomas. This multidisciplinary show, open until June 8, 2025, explores themes of death, immortality, and Mesoamerican futurism through video, sound, and sculpture installations, deeply connecting with the museum’s architectural and cultural legacy.
