Museo Experimental El Eco

The Eco was designed by Mathias Goeritz in 1953 as a poetic structure, a penetrable sculpture that aims to be a meeting point for the arts. After an erratic history, throughout which the building has been a restaurant, a nightclub, a theater and a meeting place for political activities, the University Nacional Autónoma bought the building in 2004 and re-opened the museum with the desire of reviving Goeritz's legacy. Thus, the program of the Eco is inspired by its architecture and the conceptual interests of its founder. The museum seeks to reflect on modernity and our contemporaneity, with an emphasis on experiment, emotion and interdisciplinary thinking. In addition to the exhibitions and the artistic activities it hosts, since 2010 it organizes a biannual architectural contest called the Pabellón Eco.
