La Quiñonera

La Quiñonera is an emblematic independent space that was part of the art scene of the eighties and early nineties in Mexico City. Musicians, filmmakers, actors, writers, visual artists, sailors, critics, curators, among other creators, were part of the spirit that La Quiñonera managed since its creation in 1986. The founders where the late curator Ruben Bautista and the twins Héctor and Néstor Quiñones. La Quiñonera was the result of a social and cyclical need that took shape as an alternative project for artistic creation; and secondly, revived the names of artists in all genres who have lived experiences there, and eloquently marked or expressed their spirit. Since 2010, La Quiñonera has restarted its exhibition projects through three basic premises that are considered as fundaments and objectives: to recognize the change; clean and heal the concept of power and dominance as a civilizing power, and accept death. The house, located in the neighborhood of La Candelaria in Coyoacán, has several studios and exhibition spaces, as well as a spectacular garden.
