Gallery
The Galería de Arte Mexicano (GAM) was founded in 1935 by Inés Amor and is currently directed by Alejandra R. De Yturbe and Mariana Pérez Amor. It was the first gallery established in Mexico City and started exhibiting the work of Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Miguel Covarrubias, Rufino Tamayo, Frida Kahlo and Agustín Lazo. It housed the historic International Exhibition of Surrealism of 1940. Since its creation, the GAM has organized more than 1,500 national and international exhibitions. The gallery promotes Mexican artists and those from other countries who have a special bond with Mexico, great masters as well as young creators. The gallery has one of the most complete archives of modern and contemporary art of the country and has generated numerous publications since its beginning. In its new Sala GAM room project the gallery seeks to promote and generate a dialogue with contemporary artists.
