Casa del Lago

Casa del Lago UNAM is one of the most captivating university venues, renowned for its architectural beauty and its magnificent view of the Chapultepec Castle Alcázar. Its origins date back to 1906, when, by order of Porfirio Díaz, Chapultepec Forest was transformed into a public park as part of the celebrations for the centennial of Independence, highlighting the creation of the lakes at the foot of the castle’s hill.

As a cultural center of UNAM, it was inaugurated in 1959 and has maintained an experimental and avant-garde character from the outset, aiming to foster artistic creation while strengthening and cultivating new audiences. Its interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approach embraces multiple ways of thinking, critical reflection, and intersections between languages, generations of artists, and interinstitutional dialogues.

Its current programming spans areas such as music and soundscapes, literature and textualities, performing arts, film, digital culture, outreach, and special projects, including artist residencies, open calls, seminars, courses, and workshops, among others.
