Piel sensible
Centro Cultural Plaza Fátima presents Piel sensible, a performance by Karla Leyva in duet with Jeimy Galvaiz. This event is part of the cycle Manifestaciones del cuerpo 03, curated by Lucía Lara.
Piel sensible by Karla Leyva is a work that is part of a larger project that the artist has carried out in recent years around the post-organic concept (hybridization between organic and inorganic in the body through science and technology) and its intersection with the beauty and wellness industry, analyzing the various ways in which a human being in resistance articulates its identity and relates to various powers that perpetuate stereotypes of beauty, race and gender. In her work she uses materials that come from these industries, such as face masks and makeup, tracing a line of thought that reflects on the fantasy around bodies colonized by the image and the consequences of digital practices in the behavior and anatomy of the human being.
During pandemic Covid-19, she started a series of performative exercises that can be found in a YouTube channel she created with the character Post-Organic Doll, to reflect on the collectivity and the exchange of intimacy that occurs on and from the screens. With her character she uses the ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) technique popularized during the quarantine, which consists of inducing pleasure and ecstasy through auditory and visual stimuli. Taking as a reference the fluxus current, the myth of the mermaid and theories of musical noise, in 2023 she took this exchange of intimacy to live performance, creating soft sculptures, scores and presenting an ASMR quartet at the Centro de Cultura Digital in CDMX.
