José Villarreal

Espacio Impermanente and MADE present the exhibition by José Villarreal: Me nombraron wey, as part of the project Salón 4307.

Through video performance, photography and sculpture, José seeks to propose a new reflection on the male body in Monterrey as seen through the behavior and social expectations that emerge from the key historical figures that molded the masculinity of the time. Using references to images of Monterrey such as Cerro de la Silla, the phallic corporate towers that are being built higher and higher, the cowboy imaginary and industrial paternalism, he highlights the cultural correlation between masculinity and work, which affects the understanding of the body and how it is used.
