Horizonte de sucesos
Centro Cultural Plaza Fátima presents Horizonte de sucesos, an exhibition by Ernesto Walker that will be part of the new cycle of exhibitions, Adherir a la idea
In his exhibition Horizonte de sucesos Ernesto Walker takes us on a journey that transcends the boundaries of space and time. With a multidisciplinary artistic practice, Walker uses sculpture, digital art, video and installation to explore new methods of understanding a universe that expands in front of humans in their eagerness to explore it. In his most recent production his discourse deepens the study of navigation and cartography, proposing a reflection on how these concepts influence our perception of the cosmos and our place within it.
In cosmology the term event horizon refers to the threshold around a black hole beyond which the known laws of physics cease to apply. Walker adopts this idea as a powerful metaphor that questions the limits of human knowledge and experience at a critical moment in civilization. The exhibition challenges our capacity for observation and prediction, inviting us to reflect on the nature of the universe and our relationship with it, making it clear that in other territories certainties dissolve and the limits of knowledge are challenged.
Starting from this idea, the exhibition becomes an invitation to contemplate the thresholds of the unknown, to explore those points of no return where reality, as we know it, is transformed.
The production for this exhibition is conformed by mechanical and electrical objects with a preciosist style that symbolize an imaginary that accounts for a whole tradition of navigators and explorers that through the centuries have been expanding the limits of the territory, entering other worlds with the help of objects that were invented to cross the existing frontiers.
In Agujeros Negros y Pequeños Universos, Walker takes as his starting point Stephen Hawking's theory of universes contained in black holes. Using a combination of reading, expanded drawing, animation and video, he transforms scientific texts into moving cosmological maps. The words become dynamic visuals, while the grammatical structure of the articles acts as the basis for these visual constructions. As Maurizio Coccia points out, “The words orbiting in Walker's videos create a self-referential and transdisciplinary cosmology. The text acts not only as a philosophical referent, but as a 'physical' presence in the work, introducing a new element in the visual representation.” Through this integration of text, Walker fragments form and challenges traditional conceptions of image and meaning.
In Horizonte de sucesos Ernesto Walker proposes an experience that broadens our perception of the universe, encouraging us to reconsider our certainties, to embrace uncertainty and to explore beyond the conventional horizons of human experience.
