Estudios de migración
Centro Cultural Plaza Fátima invite you to view Estudios de migración, the most recent project by artist Cristy Martínez as part of the new cycle of exhibitions Tránsitos, manchas, trayectos, huellas: de trazos a paisajes.
Cristy has initially and intuitively recorded the movement of birds, capturing their order, the figures they create, tracing their formations, locating themselves in space, painting heat maps that visualize their movement. During her process she found similarities with these daily displacements, calling them urban choreographies: the choreographies that we trace incidentally in our daily journeys and human migrations. Estudios de migración is a series of experimental exercises that allow us to observe the everyday. The internal and external movement as a political act, physical and emotional borders. The chaos and order that exist within living in the duality of the individual and the collective, of the subtle and almost imperceptible, the similarity of humans with the animal world and the constant of movement. We are in a moment where we ask ourselves: where are we moving to? What moves us? and I can't help thinking of Cecilia Vicuña walking in a spiral saying out loud: Language is migrant. Words travel from language to language, from culture to culture, from mouth to mouth. Our body migrates: cells and bacteria migrate as well, even galaxies migrate. Even galaxies migrate. What is it then to speak against migrants? It can only be speaking against ourselves; against life.
